R12 does cool better but is not good for the environment R134a does not cool as well but is environmentally friendly. I can notice a little difference but it doesnt bother me much I just need to run the fan a little more now. I guess you can but you cant mix it with the stuff in there now. Furthermore because R134a still has high GWP it also. R-12a is a hydrocarbon-based refrigerant.

The volume of r134a refrigerant is lighter than the same amount r12 refrigerant. Just adding R12a to a 134a system doesnt work very well because a 5050 mix is very inefficient. Whether R134a performs as well as R12 in any given ac system depends upon system components and the amount of R134a used. Have a good one. The Duracool stuff I mentioned was what our local Walmart carried.

Its also heavier than air so if it leaks itll settle in the engine bay rather than dissipating into the atmosphere. In the first early attemps to convert GM canaster type R12 systems to R134a something similar occured because the evaporators bleed down pressures on the R12 designed system were too low for R134a to function. Well worth the money if your AC system is still in good shape. R-134A has a slightly lower pressure at evaporator temperatures 30-40 degrees but R-134a also has a much higher pressure at condenser temperatures 120-150 degrees. Its mostly propane butane so highly flammable. I would have to change out the condenser as well as the oil I do not like pag oil as it just sucks up moisture. Heres a link to what I got.
